A bit of context

I’m Matt Redler, the CEO and one of the co-founders at Panther. We’re building one of the easiest ways for companies to hire and pay their global teams.

Covid has accelerated a trend that we all knew was obvious for a long time, which is that there are talented people across the entire world. Companies are taking advantage of that, and working with incredible talent.

  • Before Threads, pretty much all conversations would turn into a spaghetti mess. We’d think, “this sh*t is horrible!” and just hop on a call instead.

  • There was very little opportunity for deep focus because we were constantly getting pinged on Slack, and it was impossible to separate what was time sensitive vs. not.

  • Slack lacked the ability to organize conversations that carried more than one idea in a thread — that meant we couldn’t naturally take the conversation in multiple directions.

All our aforementioned problems have been very clearly fixed with Threads.

Speed is everything, and Threads has helped the team at Panther eliminate roundabout meetings so we’re able to feel as though we got meaningful work done at the end of every day.

  • We have fewer meetings because we can use channels on Threads like forums and get into deep discussions.

  • If someone is sending a chat, we hop into it. If someone writes a thread, they want us to take our time to be thoughtful in response.

  • Every Monday I share a weekly kick-off to let the team know where we are in terms of our most important metrics and what big things are ahead.

  • Creating our own automated messaging systems in Threads has allowed us to not only make sure the deep conversations are organized, but time sensitive communications get to the right people at the right time.

  • We rely on a lot of Zapier ↔ Threads integrations we’ve built. For example, we have a bot that sends a message every time we get a new customer. It’s so cool, like a little dopamine hit every time it goes off.

  • Mark for follow up: If I’m in a state of flow and I see something in my inbox that takes less than two minutes, I’ll do it. Otherwise I use follow up and it gets me to inbox zero which feels great.

  • Seen states: These are fantastic. Seeing who’s caught up on the thread prevents me and the rest of the team from having to send unnecessary pings, and builds trust. It’s really incredible.

  • Writing in blocks: It allows me to split up each component of my thoughts piece by piece. Everyone on the receiving end of these ideas allows for a significantly better time thinking about the ideas and strategies.

I literally cannot recommend Threads more for a company’s internal communication system. It replaces so many other tools, and it’s a huge level up.

The product velocity is also incredible, seeing the amount of changes that happen every day. It just blows my mind, and the whole team’s mind.
